Natural Enemy Description
Aphidoletes aphidimyza Predatory gall midge for many aphid species. Use when aphids are present (good for high pest population). Adults are most active at night. Adults lay clusters of eggs near aphids which hatch into larvae that eat aphids. Most successful in greenhouses with uncovered soil or gravel floors where they can pupate in the top layer of moist soil. Optimum temperature 60-80F. Can be used with Aphidius. Aphidoletes enters diapause (hibernation) in the fall when daylength is short and evening temperatures drop.
