Monitor herbaceous perennials for plant bugs (four-lined plant bugs and tarnished plant bugs)and signs of damage. Four-lined plant bugs adults are yellowish green with four longitudinal black lines. Feeding damage appears as brown spots on the leaves which can be confused with leaf spot disease. Tarnished plant bugs are bronze color with an oblong shaped, flat body that is tapered at the end. Damage appears as brown, necrotic spots on the foliage and distorted buds. Tap foliage over white sheet of paper to dislodge insects.
