Name About Pest
Sawflies Monitor perennials for sawfly larvae and damage. Sawfly adults are small, dark, non-stinging wasps. Sawfly larvae look like butterfly or moth caterpillars, but can be identified by the number of fleshy legs (prolegs) that follow the front three pairs of legs. Sawflies have five or more pair of prolegs, while caterpillars have less than five. Sawflies feed in groups so that leaf tissue, except for veins are eaten (skeletonization).
